Embark on an exciting adventure with us at Illinois Caverns! Girl
Scouts will explore the stunning underground formations, including
stalactites and stalagmites, and learn about the unique ecosystem of
caves. This hands-on experience includes a guided tour of the
underground creek, providing a chance to observe the fascinating world
of bats and cave-dwelling creatures.
Just ten minutes from Camp
Wartburg, this event promises to be memorable as Girl Scouts delve
into the depths of one of Illinois' natural wonders. Participants will
embark on a guided walking tour through the caverns, where they'll
marvel at the stunning stalactites and stalagmites formed over
thousands of years.
During the tour, Girl Scouts will learn
about the intricate ecosystem of caves, their vital role in the
environment, and the fascinating creatures that call them home,
including bats. The underground creek walk allows for a unique
opportunity to experience the magic of these formations up
close.
For safety, all participants must wear a helmet with a
strap (a bike helmet is acceptable) and bring two flashlights, work
gloves (to keep hands warm and protect against cuts or abrasions),
long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, sturdy boots with ankle protection,
and elbow and knee pads. This thrilling adventure combines learning
with exploration, inspiring a deeper appreciation for the natural
world.
Note: This event requires participants to be comfortable
with moderate physical activity, including crawling, climbing, and
walking through water. Please ensure all attendees are physically
capable of these activities to fully enjoy the experience.
