2023 April Volunteer Newsletter
A Special Message from CEO Loretta Graham
April is Volunteer Appreciation Month and it's no secret that Girl Scouts would not be possible without you! Thank you so much for encouraging girls to dream big, do more, and be their best. You're their cheerleader, their mentor, and their role model - and it means so much!
CEO Loretta Graham has a special video message celebrating the Girl Scout spirit to share with you. Together, we're building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. And we're making so many memories along the way!
There's so much more to explore in Girl Scouts. Get the gang together for another year of excitement! Every member that renews by April 30 will receive an Early Bird t-shirt. Troops that renew 100% of girls by this date will receive free shipping on all Council Shop orders during the next membership year! Follow the button below to see complete details.
Plus, there are even more incentives for renewing by June 12 - including a custom patch for girls and invitations to the Girl Scouts Take Over Water Parks events coming this summer.
It's a great time to add new members to your troop as well. For a limited time, brand new members can join for $35 and keep the fun going through September 2024 with an extended membership! Girls can sign up for camp and summer fun, then be ready for back to troop time when the school year starts.
Please remember that new memberships can only be added by a caregiver of a girl, an adult on their own behalf, or a GSofSI staff member. Troop Leaders and Co-Leaders cannot add new members - please reach out to Customer Care or your Community Engagement Manager for assistance.
For adventure in the sunshine or space to unwind, Girl Scout Camp is where girls want to be. This summer, all trails lead to camp!
There are 8 Day Camp options this summer - with registration deadlines coming as soon as April 15! Many camps are still looking for adult volunteers! Enjoy some one-of-a-kind fun and make new Girl Scout friends. Many camps also offer a reduced fee or reimbursement for campers of adult volunteers!
Girl Scouts can also call camp home for a while! Deadlines for Resident Camp are coming as soon as May 1. There are traditional camp options at Camp Torqua and Camp Ondessonk - as well as an outdoor adventure for Cadettes-Ambassadors to paddle down the 11 Point River in Southern Missouri.
Remind families to reserve their spots at camp ASAP! Don't forget - financial assistance is available!
The current Early Bird registration phase is a great time to review and select the appropriate volunteer role(s) in which you will be serving during the new membership year. As you are renewing your membership, use the instructions in the MYGS Quick Reference Guide-Role Selection or watch this short video tutorial to complete this important step in your MYGS portal.
Understanding Your Role is a new course that is part of the required training for returning and new adult volunteers. This brief but thorough course is now the official method for volunteers to receive, review, and accept the volunteer position descriptions for the roles in which they will serve. Log in to MYGS and choose gsLearn from the menu to the left to access this training. Follow the button below to see the volunteer roles required to take this training for the 2023-24 membership year.
There are so many upcoming opportunities to spend time at Camp Torqua! This hidden gem is nestled in the outskirts of Edwardsville and offers comfortable amenities with a classic camp appeal. Need a reason to plan a visit? There are upcoming options for individual Girl Scouts, entire troops, and even a weekend getaway just for adults!
Girl Scouts will spend about three hours on the water learning the ins and outs of canoeing while experiencing first-hand the beauty and excitement of a river ecosystem.
Location: Meet at Camp Wartburg in Waterloo
Deadline: 5/22
Girl Scouts are going to a baseball game in style! Come dressed in your uniform - there is a parade before the game and your troop will be announced over the loud speaker. After the game, we'll enjoy a movie and sleep under the stars in the stadium.
We are planning a meteorology program with U.S. Navy meteorologists on Friday, May 12 in conjunction with St. Louis Navy Week! More info TBA!
PLUS! GSofSI will be participating in the Scott Air Force Base Air Show and STEM Expo! This is a huge event on May 12-14. Stop by the hangar to see us in action while attending this exciting event!
These are just some of the incredible program opportunities that are coming soon! Follow the button below to see our April Program Alert to see more.
