Hello, I'm Loretta Graham, CEO of Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois. You know, every morning when I take my son to school and I go to work, I see many flags of the United States blowing in the breeze.
I often find myself gazing at the flag. You see, I do not apologize for our support of our military, our country, and my devotion to God. Our flag is not the only thing in which we owe our allegiance. It is owed to justice and humanity.
When we honor the flag, we're also honoring those who have served and died under it. Although many lives have been sacrificed, our flag has always prevailed over the land of the free and the home of the brave.
The United States flag is more than just some brightly colored cloth. It is a symbol of our nation. The red stripes remind us of the lifeblood of brave men and women. The white stripes remind us of purity and cleanliness of purpose, thought, word, and deed. The blue is for truth and justice.
Our Americans are motivated by a sense of responsibility. You know, now June 14th is Flag Day. As I remember that day, I leave you with part of our Girl Scout Promise:
On my honor, I will try:
to serve God and my country.
May God bless you and may God bless the USA.
