Congratulations to Service Unit 108 Edwardsville/Glen Carbon for being named the October 2024 Standout Service Unit!
On Sept. 8, Service Unit 108 held a "Welcome to Girl Scouting Scouting Skate" as a back-to-school event at the Meyer Center YMCA in Edwardsville, IL. The service unit team shared the information for the event at registration events, with service unit members, and with the local school community to promote the opportunity widely. A mix of returning and newly registered Girl Scouts attended, making for a total of 69 Girl Scouts that skated!
Leaders were able to meet with new parents, and different troops and volunteers were able to connect and spread the Girl Scout spirit. All of the skaters had lots of fun, too.
The event was free for girls and everyone was invited to donate feminine hygiene products to the I Support the Girls organization. The Service Unit was able to collect a trunkful of items to donate!
“We always enjoy opportunities to get all out troops together and celebrate the sisterhood of Girl Scouts," said Troop Leader Rachel Smith. "Our Service Unit is really focused on ways to collaborate!”
What a wonderful way to connect and begin another year of Girl Scouting! Congratulations, Service Unit 108 on your wonderful event.
If your service unit has an amazing event that you want to share, you can nominate them for a chance to win a $50 gift card to the GSofSI Council Shop! Submissions for November events are due by December 5th!
