Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois honored longtime supporters Rick and Diane Siemer with the Distinguished Community Leader Award during the organization's 2023 United We Lead Gala. The event, held September 9 at Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville, was part fund-raiser and part grand celebration. Among the reasons for good cheer was the spotlight on the Siemers for their incredible impact on Girl Scouting for nearly 35 years.
The pair first got involved with Girl Scouts when their daughters, Martha and Katie, joined the movement. Hailing from Teutopolis, their efforts quickly spread to supporting Girl Scouting in the greater Effingham area, and Southern Illinois as a whole. From taking troops camping, to being local leaders during the cookie program, to giving generously to council campaigns - Rick and Diane have given back in every sense of the phrase.
“Rick and Diane are beyond deserving of the Distinguished Community Leader Award,” said Heidi Koehl Weaver, Director of Development. “Their generosity – both in time and treasure – has been instrumental in building girls of courage, confidence, and character make our world a better place. Our council is extremely fortunate to have them as champions of Girl Scouting in Southern Illinois.”
