Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois congratulates Dalanie Bell from Beecher City, Illinois for becoming a Gold Award Girl Scout—a designation she earned by making improvements to her school library.
Dalanie knew from the start that she wanted her Gold Award project to benefit her high school. She then set her sights on making the library a brighter and more welcoming environment for the students.
Dalanie was drawn to the bookshelves in the library. She noticed they hadn’t been refreshed since the school was built. Dalanie got to work refinishing the bookshelves by staining them. She also added posters to the library. Her end result was a brighter, more inviting library for students to enjoy.
As they take action to transform their world, Gold Award Girl Scouts gain tangible skills and prove they are the leaders our community and world need. The Gold Award is earned by girls in grades 9–12 who demonstrate extraordinary leadership in developing sustainable solutions to local, national and global challenges. Since the highest award was established in 1916, Girl Scouts have answered the call to drive lasting, impactful change. The Gold Award is the mark of the truly remarkable.
Dalanie learned some life skills as a result of her Gold Award project. “I learned that I needed to not be afraid to ask for help when doing something for my community,” she said.
Dalanie is the daughter of Jay and Judi Bell. She is a graduate of Beecher City High School. Dalanie is a Trifecta Girl Scout who has earned the Girl Scout Bronze Award, Girl Scout Silver Award, and Girl Scout Gold Award.
