Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois congratulates Danielle Cary from Caseyville, Illinois for becoming a Gold Award Girl Scout—a designation she earned by providing new and engaging resources for the Anderson Pediatric Therapy Center.
Danielle felt passionate about the elderly or children of her community benefiting from her Gold Award project. After connecting with the Anderson Pediatric Therapy Center, she knew she found the perfect fit. Danielle worked to provide new sensory bins, bottles, and boards for the therapy center. She painted chalk and magnet walls in the waiting rooms to make for a more enjoyable experience for the kids who were receiving treatments. Danielle’s goal was to provide a fun and welcoming environment, one which the kids looked forward to visiting.
Danielle didn’t stop there. In addition to the work she did for Anderson Pediatric Therapy Center, she also ran and hosted multiple Sensory Saturdays at Caseyville Public Library. There, Danielle showed the kids who attended how to create their own sensory bottles and bins as well as lead them in activities using the sensory objects.
Gold Award Girl Scouts gain a lot themselves when they take on the task of a Gold Award project. “Through this experience I realized that I can be a great role model and do anything I set my mind to,” said Danielle. “I can actually make a difference.”
As they take action to transform their world, Gold Award Girl Scouts gain tangible skills and prove they are the leaders our community and world need. The Gold Award is earned by girls in grades 9–12 who demonstrate extraordinary leadership in developing sustainable solutions to local, national and global challenges. Since the highest award was established in 1916, Girl Scouts have answered the call to drive lasting, impactful change. The Gold Award is the mark of the truly remarkable.
Danielle is the daughter of Keri Davis Cary and Dan Cary. She is currently a sophomore at Collinsville High School. Danielle is a Trifecta Girl Scout who has earned the Girl Scout Bronze Award, Girl Scout Silver Award, and Girl Scout Gold Award.
