Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois congratulates Hadley Hagler from Shumway, Illinois for becoming a Gold Award Girl Scout—a designation she earned by giving back to her school.
When planning for her Girl Scout Gold Award, Hadley knew right away she wanted her school to benefit from her project. She had conversations with her high school principal, as well as the grade school principal, to get their thoughts on what could benefit the schools. From those conversations, Hadley’s excitement for her project began to grow as she realized she could incorporate a beloved summer camp activity into her work.
Hadley got busy making plans to build a GaGa Ball pit for her grade school. In addition, she built two benches for the grade school and two for the high school. Hadley’s GaGa Ball pit and benches are used daily by the students at the schools.
As they take action to transform their world, Gold Award Girl Scouts gain tangible skills and prove they are the leaders our community and world need. The Gold Award is earned by girls in grades 9–12 who demonstrate extraordinary leadership in developing sustainable solutions to local, national and global challenges. Since the highest award was established in 1916, Girl Scouts have answered the call to drive lasting, impactful change. The Gold Award is the mark of the truly remarkable.
Not only do Gold Award Girl Scouts better their communities through their projects, they often grow themselves through the process and learn skills they can take with them throughout their lives. “I learned that I can organize and lead a team towards a goal,” said Hadley, reflecting on her Gold Award project.
Hadley is the daughter of Andrea and Dusty Hagler. She is currently a senior at Beecher City High School. Upon graduation, she plans to continue her studies at Ozark Christian College and Missouri Southern State University where she’ll major in Biblical Studies and Early Childhood Education. Hadley is a Trifecta Girl Scout who has earned the Girl Scout Bronze Award, Girl Scout Silver Award, and Girl Scout Gold Award.
