Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois put our robotics power on display at the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Challenge Regionals on December 3! In FLL Challenge, teams build an autonomous robot that they program to navigate missions and score points on a gameboard. They also conduct an extensive research project. During competition, teams compete using their robots and deliver their research presentation to judges.
GSofSI teams competing in this year’s FLL regional qualifying tournaments were excellent competitors and good sports! Gear Girls and Minecraft Bees advanced to the FLL Challenge State Tournament, which will be held on January 28 at University of Illinois. Four teams also received awards:
Gear Girls were finalists for the Champions Award for achieving excellence and innovation in all aspects of competition, as well as the Robot Performance Award for their table game score.
Minecraft Bees won the Core Values Award for displaying extraordinary enthusiasm, teamwork, and respect for other teams.
Knight Lights won the Rising All-Star Award, which celebrates a team that judges notice and expect great things from in the future.
Axolegos won the Breakthrough Award for showing significant progress.
Great job to all of the girls who competed - your hard work showed everyone the courage, confidence, and character of being a Girl Scout! Thank you to the teams’ volunteer coaches for your encouragement and support. Thanks also to Bayer Fund for helping sponsor our Girl Scouts Robotics Program in Southern Illinois.
