Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois is proud to provide the opportunity for girls to participate in FIRST Robotics. Through this experience, girls learn valuable life skills as they build and program robots. This season, seven Girl Scout Robotics teams from Southern Illinois are competing in two leagues. Good luck, Girl Scouts!
First LEGO League Challenge
In 2022, GSofSI is host to six teams competing in FIRST LEGO League Challenge. In a FLL Challenge, students in grades 4-8 plan and build an autonomous robot that they program to navigate missions that score points on a gameboard. They also conduct an extensive research project. After several weeks of preparation, teams meet at regional tournaments where they compete using their robots and deliver a research presentation.
GSofSI's Teams competing in FLL Challenge include:
Axolegos from Effingham
Campfire Girls from Edwardsville
Gear Girls from O'Fallon
Knight Lights from Belleville
Master Builders from O'Fallon
Minecraft Bees from Highland
Regional qualifying tournaments will be held December 3 in O'Fallon and Champaign Urbana. The Tesla State Championship will be January 28 at University of Illinois in Champaign.
FIRST Tech Challenge
GSofSI is also host to Polytechnic Puzzle Pieces (P3) from O'Fallon, which competes in FIRST Tech Challenge. In FIRST Tech Challenge, students in grades 7-12 learn to think like engineers. Teams design, build, and code robots to compete in an alliance format against other teams.
P3 will compete on November 19 in Edwardsville, December 10 in Centralia, and January 14 in Granite City. The Regional Qualifier is February 11 in Maryville, while the FTC State Tournament will be February 24-25.
